World Cup 2018: Dance Artists Predict Who Will Win

49

Grab your vuvuzela and your colored scarf. The 2018 FIFA World Cup is about to begin!

Soccer, or football, brings the world together. Men, women and children from all walks life will unite to shout, sing and cheer around televisions, in local bars, and course, the World Cup's Russian stadiums. Even your favorite DJs and producers will be glued to their screens. Many are cheering for their home countries – if their home countries made the cut.

Billboard Dance caught up with many  dance music's biggest names to hear who they're rooting for, and who they predict will end up taking the cup.

Who are you rooting for and why?

I’m rooting for Sweden, course, since I’m Swedish. I like the team they have this year and I think they could definitely make some noise. Zlatan isn’t on the roster so they’ll have to find other ways to make up for his ability to score goals, but they can definitely make it out the group, which is difficult because Germany, and then anything can happen.

Who do you think will win and why?

There are a lot great teams, but I think Belgium could go far. They have great talent. Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne play with great flair and creativity and can make a lot winning plays. There are a lot amazing players and there’s going to be a lot special moments, as always.

Who are you rooting for and why?

Australia, Brazil and Nigeria! Australia because, duh, that's my home and I pledge blind allegiance to the flag (and I’m visiting next month so will be fun to watch). Brazil because I was there for the last one and they are so passionate they won me over! And Nigeria because their kits are fashion inspo.

Who do you think will win and why?

I wish it were Brazil, but my money is on Germany to win again

Who are you rooting for and why?

I’m definitely first going to support the Russian national team, since it’s my home country. And even though they didn’t perform really well in the last few games, I do hope that home country walls are gonna help them to feel more confident.
I also really like the French team, there’s a lot young and incredible talent in their squad, so it would be interesting to see how well they will perform.

Who do you think will win and why?

I’d say, Germany, Spain or France — France for the reasons I mentioned before. Spain and Germany are well known for really strong players and performing well in every tournament they've participated in over the past decade.

Who are you rooting for and why?

Well, Spain obviously! I grew up in Madrid, so I've got to rep my home country. Although, I cant believe they just fired their coach so that definitely makes thing a bit more uncertain… regardless, I think we have one the most solid teams in the competition this year.

Who do you think will win and why?

Again, I've got to be biased here and say Spain, because I really do think we've got one the most promising teams lined up for the World Cup in years. Having watched them develop over the years, I truly think we're at a strong point with the player's we've got right now. I can't wait to see what happens!

I am rooting for England. We have to hope that one day we will win again! We have a great team this year and an actual chance, okay a very slim chance, but I still want to hold out hope that we can do something.

Who do you think will win and why?

I think it's between Argentina and Brazil this year. Argentina will eventually win as this might be Messi’s last ever World Cup and he is going to want to go out having led his country to glory. Also Brazil is going to want to redeem themselves from 4 years ago in Brazil; and they also have a much better team now so there will be less pressure on Neymar now. Those are my thoughts but you can also never write f the Germans.

So course I’m supporting Denmark! I don’t know anyone who would support another country other than their own. I’m proud to be Danish, I’m proud our boys and I can’t wait to celebrate with the guys when they come back to Denmark.

Who do you think will win and why?

I think Denmark will win! The last time we won something was back in 1992 in the European Championships and I can just about remember that, so it’s about time we bought the big silverware back home. And you know, we’re the Vikings from the north Scandina, I can’t see any team that we can’t beat this year, we have a super, super strong squad. Go Denmark! And course good luck to everyone else, but mainly go Denmark!

Who are you rooting for and why?

We’re very proud that this year the World Cup is held in our country. Of course we hope our national team will do its best and show beautiful football in their home pitches, pleasing several millions dedicated fans. But our personal favorite in this championship is the Brazilian team. It's no secret that the whole world loves Brazilian football but this year the team from South America looks amazingly confident! Paulinho, Casemiro and, course, Neymar – that's who should lead Brazil to victory! OLE!

Who are you rooting for and why?

I'm so disappointed that the US didn't make it, so I'm still trying to decide who I should root for. I really fell in love with soccer when I was spending time aboard in Italy during college, so I would've probably rooted for Italy after the US, but the fact that neither teams made it this year is extremely disappointing. My tour manager is from London so he's going to force me to cheers for England.

Who do you think will win and why?

I feel like Germany or Spain have a good shot to win every World Cup.

Who are you rooting for and why?

My first and only country I would support is Italy, but for the first time in 60 years we didn't qualify, so this will be a very different World Cup for me to watch.

Who do you think will win and why?

The team i think that will win the World Cup is Nigeria, there hasn't been an African winner before and they have the best playing kit, so have a really good chance to win it.

Nicky Romero

Who are you rooting for and why?

I'm a Dutch national team fan and am really disappointed they didn't qualify so I'll just enjoy the competition rooting for an exhilarating spectacle.

Who do you think will win and why?

I think Brazil has a good chance. Neymar Jr. was killing it recently. Argentina has a good chance as well because Messi was playing very well although I think Argentina is less cooperative as a team unlike Brazil which seems to be a well-oiled machine. I think Brazil is gonna get it this year.

Who are you rooting for and why?

THE PHARAOHS, EGYPT. Although Australia's Socceroos have qualified and I'm super keen to see them go well, my Egyptian heritage has me sooooooo excited to see Egypt in the World Cup for the first time in 28 years! Mohamed Salah is the world's best right now and after that nasty shoulder injury picked up in the Champions League final, it's such a relief to see the “Egyptian King”  touchdown in Russia.

Who do you think will win and why?

The big players represent some big teams. Les Bleus have Pogba, Messi's Argentina should do well and the Neymar-led Brazil are clear favs, however if Mo Salah is in form, he'll have every single Egyptian on his side! It's a long shot, but you gotta have faith!

Paul van Dyk

Who are you rooting for and why?

Of course I will support my home team Germany, but also Colombia as my wife is from there. Let's just hope they don't have to play against each other..

Who do you think will win and why?

I do believe the Brazilians seem to be up for the task. I saw a few games their's lately and they seem to be in a different league this year.

Robin Schulz

Who are you rooting for and why?

Germany. This is my home and I will always support them.

Who do you think will win and why?

Germany course! The strength is that we do not have one single star – it is team work! The whole team is important and that will be the key to success.

Who are you rooting for and why?

I am rooting (aka “supporting” in Eurospeak, I was told years ago to never refer to it as “rooting”) for Belgium. They have a golden generation talent, including Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne, who is arguably the best all around attack player in the world- and I love the fact that it all hails from such a tiny country. Over the years I spent a lot time in Belgium, recording in Ghent, and signed to a label in Brussels and developed a close bond with the country, which oddly reminds me a lot home (Montreal). I like to support an underdog, and it would be a beautiful story if the tiny country Belgium could overcome their insecurity and fulfill the promise their individual talents.

Who do you think will win and why?

I don’t have a clear choice for who I think will win, but I will pick Spain. they are my “adopted” football nation and I feel are the most balanced side- with talent, experience and unity. They have the defensive steel in Ramos, one the top 3 keepers in the world in DeGea, a wealth creativity in midfield with Silva and Thiago and a brutal edge in Diego Costa. It’s the blend ruthlessness and technical ability that I feel gives them an edge over Germany, Brazil and France.  They have a team champions who are experienced and can handle the pressure. And it’s Iniesta’s farewell and he is my hero.”
