Pop fans are in for a treat at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards on Wednesday (May 1), as both Taylor Swift and Madonna will kick off new eras in their careers with the worldwide live TV performances of their latest songs.
Swift will open the show with "ME!," her new single featuring Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco, while Madonna will team up with Maluma on their new tune "Medellin." Both songs serve as the first tastes of each pop diva's upcoming studio albums.
On this week's Billboard Pop Shop Podcast, the team discusses why they're super eager to see what Swift and Madonna bring to the awards -- and if perhaps visuals from their just-released music videos will be translated to the stage. (Listen to the discussion below.)
The 2019 Billboard Music Awards will air Wednesday from the MGM Grand Garden Arena at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. The show will be hosted by Kelly Clarkson for the second year in a row.
Plus, the Pop Shoppers also chat about other sure-to-be exciting performances on the show from BTS featuring Halsey, Mariah Carey, Ciara, Clarkson, Lauren Daigle, Dan + Shay, Halsey (in a solo performance slot), Jonas Brothers, Tori Kelly, Khalid and Panic! at the Disco. (Note: Ariana Grande's performance on the show was announced after the episode was recorded.)
Also on the new Pop Shop Podcast, the team chats about big chart news from Beyoncé, Lil Dicky, Khalid and Taylor Swift! Beyoncé claims a pair of concurrent top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 albums chart with Homecoming: The Live Album (after its first full chart tracking week of activity) and returning Lemonade (thanks to its wide streaming debut) — the first time a woman has had two albums in the top 10 at the same time in more than two years. Meanwhile, over on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Khalid nabs his fifth top 10 hit with “Talk,” Lil Dicky’s charity track “Earth” debuts in the top 20, and Swift’s “ME!" debuts at No. 100 after only three days of airplay activity.
