Why Lunay Released His Debut Album ‘Épico’ 14 Months Into His Career

Jefnier Osorio Moreno, better known as Lunay, has only been working for 14 months as an urban artist, discovered last year by producers Chris Jeday and Gaby Music, who today manage his career. So far, the 19-year-old artist has been living his dream. But, today (Oct. 25), marks an important moment in his career, the release of his debut album, Épico.

“I titled the album Épico because what is happening in my life right now is epic, what’s happening in my career is epic,” Lunay tells Billboard. “My fans asked for more music and it was time to give them more music… I just want to conquer everyone's heart and I want to show who Lunay is.”

Looking back to the past months on the Billboard charts, the former Latin artist on the rise peaked No. 28 on the Emerging Artists chart dated May 25, 2019. On Hot Latin Songs, the “Soltera” remix with Daddy Yankee and Bad Bunny reached No. 3 (May 25 chart), peaked at No. 1 on Latin Airplay chart (dated July 13) and marked his first Billboard Hot 100 entry (peaked at No. 73 on May 25). Plus, last Thursday (Oct. 17), at the 2019 Latin American Music Awards he proved that his career is rising after winning the New Artist of the Year category.

The 14-track reggaeton album begins with “Envidia” (Envy), one minute of audio that is a direct message to those who did not believe in his talent from the beginning. The second track is one of the most essential for Lunay, "Aventura" (Adventure) with Anuel AA and Ozuna. The song follows Soltera’s (with Daddy Yankee and Bad Bunny) musical style but lyrically invites a girl to have an adventure with him for one night.

Two songs that Lunay recommended during his interview with Billboard are "Malas Intenciones” (Bad Intentions) and "Mi Favorita" with Wisin & Yandel. "'Malas Intenciones' is a song that I recorded alone and I know it can impact society and 'Mi Favorita' because it is great to have had the opportunity to record with Wisin and Yandel," he says.

What was Lunay's most epic moment in the studio? “It was when they played Daddy Yankee’s part for 'Soltera' remix for me, honestly it was incredible. Many emotions, I always had the dream of recording with him," he says.
