Who Should Be Nominated for Album of the Year at the 2020 Grammys? Vote!

With the 62nd annual Grammy Awards coming up at the beginning of next year, Billboard is seriously looking at the top contenders for the top award: album of the year.

As Billboard awards editor Paul Grein has previously reported, the Nominations Review Committee is looking for big hits with critical acclaim -- and major sales definitely help boost a project's credibility. Taylor Swift No. 1-debuting album Lover barely snuck in before the Aug. 31, 2019, deadline for eligibility, but it already became 2019’s top-selling album in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music, after calculating 500,000 sales on its second day of release.

Swift's sales surpassed the 2019 totals of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born soundtrack, which previously held the top-selling title for this year though it was released in October 2018. On Saturday, Gaga posted on Instagram to celebrate the album’s one-year anniversary and its current six-time platinum status.

If Swift gets the album of the year nom, then she’ll have four under her belt -- tying Beyoncé, who could be in the running with her Homecoming: The Live Album release from April, or maybe her July companion album The Lion King: The Gift. Her sister Solange could join her in the category with her fourth studio album When I Get Home, which might make them the first sibling duo to be nominated for the same title since Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson in 1995 with his album HIStory: Past, Present And Future, Book I.
