Weezer Releases Cover of Toto's 'Africa' Following Social Media Campaign: Listen

After weeks intense pressure, Weezer finally caved and released a cover Toto’s iconic song “Africa.” The release comes after a fan Twitter account, @weezerafrica, went viral for convincing River Cuomo’s band to cover the quintessential track. After months hassling, the account, run by a 14-year-old who learned the song after watching Stranger Things, finally caught the band’s attention.
Weezer initially released a cover Toto’s #2 hit single “Rosanna” on Thursday (May 24). “#WeezerCoverAfrica turned into #WeezerCoveringRosanna ???” @weezerafrica wrote upon the release. Fans were clearly not satisfied, so the band finally caved, and delivered their rendition the single early this morning (May 29).
Minus a few rocking power chords, the cover is initially identical to the original. The single’s artwork sports @weezerafrica’s original tweet, “@RiversCuomo it’s about time you bless the rains down in Africa.”
