Tones and I unveiled an acoustic music video for her hit “Dance Monkey” on Thursday (Oct. 17).
Clad in a red baseball cap and matching t-shirt, the Australian singer-songwriter reinvents the upbeat single into a somber ballad, putting her growling vocals front and center over sparse piano. “They say oh my god I see the way you shine/ Take your hands my dear and take them both in mine/ You know you stopped me dead while I was passing by/ And now I beg to see you dance just one more time,” she sings as the camera whirls around her, the lights in the studio turning a number of colors before going dark.
“Dance Monkey” is the second single off the rising star’s debut EP, The Kids Are Coming. While the song made its debut on the Hot 100 this week at No. 96, it has peaked at No. 1 on numerous charts around the globe, including the 19-year-old singer’s native Australia, New Zealand and the U.K..
