Swae Lee is paying tribute to the lives lost.

After a week of Black Lives Matter protests across the country, the Rae Sremmurd crooner has turned to music to share his pain and uplift during trying times.

“I just wanted to use my voice to do something positive, so I’ma sing a little tune for y’all,” said Swae in the two-minute clip, which he shared on Instagram.

While seated in front of his computer, he performed a cover of Puff Daddy’s 1997 hit “I’ll Be Missing You” with its poignant lyrics. “Every step I take, every move I make / Every single day, every time I pray / I’ll be missing you,” he sings. “Thinkin’ of the day, when you went away / What a life to take, what a bond to break / I’ll be missing you.”

The video ended with a message: “Stay safe. See you soon!”

Earlier in the week, Swae joined demonstrations in Miami to protest police brutality and racial inequality. “The voices of humanity are being heard now more than ever !!!!” he said. “Feel the power of unity we have always been stronger as one …putting our differences aside is the biggest step for mankind.”

Prior to the pandemic, Swae had been working on his solo album. In March, he released a video for his single “Someone Said.”
