This week on the Viva Friday Playlist:
Gloria Trevi – "Abranse Perras"
After releasing her catchy reggaeton "Hijuepu*#" in collab with Karol G, Gloria Trevi returns to her unique musical style. Her new single "Abranse Perras" is an unapologetic pop-rock song fused with hints of disco that's dedicated to women and the LGBTQ community. The colorful music video shows Trevi rocking over seven costumes changes and the special appearance of drag queens such as Valentina, Cynthia La Fountaine, RuPaul Drag Race's Jessica Wild, and Ricky Lips from Guadalajara, México. — JESSICA ROIZ
Akwid – "Akwid Suena"
Los Angeles duo Akwid, made up of brothers Sergio and Francisco Gomez, were genre pioneers who originally fused rap with regional Mexican beats. After a six-year hiatus that has seen the rise of reggaetón and trap, the brothers are back with “Akwid Suena,” a track that brings to the forefront the West Coast street reality accompanied by a video that manages to incorporate every conceivable imagery of East Los Angeles, from underground fights to lowriders. Akwid’s forte was always their narrative, descriptive lyricism and their fat, rich beats. In this comeback, they certainly have not lost their touch. Welcome back! — LEILA COBO
Joss Favela – "La Magia De Tus Ojos"
Joss Favela continues his line of romance and this time comes with this new track, which is about a man who falls in love after simply looking into the eyes of a woman. “La Magia De Tus Ojos” was released alongside a music video filmed at the Inah Center, the Cultural Center and Bicentennial Convention in the city of Durango, Mexico. — SUZETTE FERNANDEZ
Rauw Alejandro ft. Oliva Irie Kingz – “Na De Ti”
New trap singers continue rising, creating new music to conquer the international market. On this occasion, Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro and Irie Kingz’s Oliva have joined forces for the song "Na De Ti," which appears on Alejandro’s upcoming EP Trap Cake. The song is great to dedicate to an ex, making it clear that you don’t want to be in the relationship anymore. — S.F.
Ricardo Montaner – "No Me Hagas Daño"
Here, the Argentinian singer recruits Nicky Jam to be the protagonist in his new music video. "No Me Hagas Daño," written by Montaner, Camilo Echeverry, David Julca and Jonathan Julca, is a spiteful ballad. — S.F.
Locos por Juana – “Don’t Tell Me Know” feat. Freddie McGregor
South Florida’s Locos por Juana continue on reggae mode as they team up with Jamaican reggae legend Freddie McGregor on the bilingual tune “Don’t Tell Me Know,” the second single off their upcoming seventh studio album Crazy For Jane (slated for a summer release). The song sets the mood for a love story in a music video — directed by Julian Yuri Rodriguez — which takes a young couple across town in search of candid ventures. Locos por Juana’s hybrid island swing, along with McGregor’s Philly-souled vocals, creates a balanced permutation between reggae and alternative Latin fusion, the signature stamp of the band. — PAMELA BUSTIOS
Girl Ultra “Dame Love” featuring Cuco
Mexico’s City R&B singer Mariana de Miguel, who goes by the moniker Girl Ultra, pairs up with Mexican-American singer-songwriter Cuco on “Dame Love,” a bilingual song produced by the chicano, who also co-wrote the lyrics. The rugged guitar-driven single dabbles with textures and emotions. “Dame” is a meek R&B-soul tune with daring soft-spoken vocals teeming with sensual melodic shifts and the second single of Girl Ultra’s debut full debut full-length album Nuevos Aires, out this summer. — P.B.
Chencho Corleone, Miky Woodz – "Impaciente"
As part of Plan B, Chencho Corleone has been one of the most respectable reggaeton artists who has paved the way for the nueva escuela. Now, following the success of "El Efecto," his collaboration with Rauw Alejandro, Chencho drops his new single "Impaciente" featuring Miky Woodz. Keeping true to the old-school sensual perreo melodies that characterize Chencho, the collab is about a person who's impatient and wants to be intimate with their special someone. Miky Woodz brings his fresh Latin trap essence to the table. The music video, directed by Fernando Lugo in Miami, is a modern black-and-white clip featuring both artists and a beautiful model. — J.R.
