Vanessa Williams to Play a Lounge Singer on New ABC Comedy ‘Happy Accident’


Vanessa Williams is returning to ABC.

The Ugly Betty and 666 Park Avenue grad has been tapped to star reverse Matt Walsh within the Disney-owned broadcaster's comedy pilot Happy Accident.

The single-camera comedy revolves round two Pittsburgh households -- a father (Veep's Walsh) with three grownup daughters (Joanna Garcia Swisher) and a resort lounge singer together with her med pupil son -- who're pressured collectively after a decades-old secret is revealed.

Williams will play Sheri, the lounge singer, who's described as a beautiful diva with no cash who had a regional hit within the late '80s however acts like she's acting at Lincoln Center each evening. Her son is a very powerful factor in her life -- however her profession is a detailed second.

Model, actress and singer Williams has launched a number of studio albums and earned Grammy nominations for her hit "Save the Best for Last." The casting brings her again to ABC, the place she starred on the hit Ugly Betty and adopted that up with the one-and-done horror thriller 666 Park Ave.

Happy Accident hails from Modern Family writers Jon Pollack and Abraham Higginbotham, who exec produce alongside pilot director Kat Coiro. The potential collection is a co-production (for now, till the studios merge) between 20th Century Fox TV and ABC Studios.
