On Aug. 8, 2018, Mac Miller delivered one of his final memorable performances with his impressive NPR Tiny Desk concert. One year later, Ty Dolla $ign made his way to the NPR office in Washington D.C., where he dedicated his Tiny Desk to the late Pittsburgh rapper by performing only their 2016 The Divine Feminine collab "Cinderella."
The performance included two bandmates, Thundercat on bass and Justus West on the guitar, who were present for Miller's Tiny Desk last year. NPR noted that once Dolla $ign was reminded of the anniversary, he huddled with his band and after "something special happened," they dove right into "Cinderella."
"The band paused and huddled," Carter said. "They mulled over a few notes in a matter of seconds then gave me a signal that they were ready. The room was silenced and the cameras started rolling again."
Following the release of the J. Cole-assisted "Purple Emoji," Dolla $ign is headed to drop his solo album later this year. Keep an eye out for another Tiny Desk concert from him as well.
