Ty Dolla $ign Connects With J. Cole For ‘Purple Emoji’: Listen

Ty Dolla $ign has recruited  J. Cole for "Purple Emoji," which premiered as Zane Lowe's World Record over at Beats 1 on Monday (May 20).

The record is built around a soulful sample, as Dolla $ign wails about the need for a certain someone to step back into his life. "You stay 10 toes down, now you could kick your feet up/ I had to boss you up/ I had to level up myself/ I did some growing up/ I'm doing better for myself, but I still need you," he croons.

Cole picks up the pace over the MXXWLL production, but also expresses his lust for his significant other. "Black angel with the regular name/ Strangers I could never contain my passion for you/ In public I know that you loving/ I'm trying to put one more little boy in your stomach/ No fronting I keep it 100/ If you was to leave me I know I'm gonna plummet," Jermaine raps.

Dolla $ign explained to Zane Lowe that the collab come together by the lucky chance that they were in the same recording studio in NYC. "I was at this studio called Jungle City in New York working on Yandhi with Kanye. And then just turns out Cole was in the room right next to me. When I saw him I was like bro I got something to play you," he detailed. "I’m like, 'Yo, I just did this one I thought would be crazy for both of us.' So he came in my room, I played it for him immediately and he did his verse in five minutes."

The Beach House 3 artist continued to say that the album is his favorite to date and almost done. "I feel like I got all the songs and now I’m just working on the deluxe version to add more songs a week later however after I put out the album," the 34-year-old revealed.
