Travis Scott transformed the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards into his woozy version outer space with an energetic Astroworld medley. But before the adventure began, the rapper was introduced on stage by DJ Khaled, who shouted, "Young icon alert!" in honor Scott's immensely successful third album.
Scott began his performance with Astroworld opener "Stargazing" as he rapped the first few bars within a spaceship as trippy visuals from the universe played in the background. Then, James Blake made an appearance to sing his feature on "Stop Trying to Be God" while Scott prepared for the moment fans were waiting for: the "Sicko Mode" rager.
Accompanied by a trove young dancers who rocked black hoodies emblazoned with peace signs, the rapper ripped through the stage for "Sicko Mode," proving the song could also stand on its own in a live setting without featured artist Drake. But the best part the performance was the massive replica Scott's head that was similar to the one that popped up in Los Angeles last month, as well as his homage to the late Aretha Franklin.
Scott recently shared the dates for his upcoming Astroworld: Wish You Were Here Tour, which kicks f Nov. 8 at Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore. Special guests Trippie Redd, Sheck Wes, Gunna and Virgil Abloh will be coming along for the wild ride. The tour announcement came after the rapper's Astroworld album took over the No. 1 position on the Billboard 200 for the second consecutive week.
