On “Glad He’s Gone,” Tove Lo's debut single from her upcoming album Sunshine Kitty, she sang about helping a friend get over her bad ex-boyfriend. But in her latest single, it’s Lo who needs the help in moving past a bad ex-girlfriend.
On Friday (Aug. 2), Lo released her new single “Bad as the Boys,” a light, summertime bop where the singer details a summer fling that turned to heartbreak when her ex-girlfriend dropped her like a bad habit. “Took my heart and sunk with it/ She was just as bad as the boys,” she admits.
The song also features a verse from Finnish pop phenom Alma, who previously guested on Lo’s “Bitches” remix, and appeared alongside Lo on Charli XCX’s “Out of My Head.”
Lo said in a statement that it was important for her to team up with an artist who understood exactly what she was singing about. “Since I’m singing about a girl I wanted another female artist on it who also likes girls; so I hit up Alma,” she said. “She really felt the song and was down to sing it with me. She has such an amazing voice and she absolutely killed it! And she’s badass.”
Along with releasing the new song, Lo also debuted a new lyric video for the track. As the song’s words appear on screen as old-school karaoke text, Lo dances through a backyard party, the streets and an abandoned playground, while Alma appears on a dark beach.
Lo released the new track just one day after revealing the release date for her upcoming album Sunshine Kitty. Out Sept. 20 Island Records, the album will feature a slew of new collaborations, including team-ups with Kylie Minogue, Doja Cat, Jax Jones and more.
