The duo played the Audioslave song at the Sonic Temple Festival on the second anniversary of Cornell’s death.
On the second anniversary of Chris Cornell's death his former Audioslave bandmate guitarist Tom Morello and System of a Down singer Serj Tankian teamed up at the first Sonic Temple Festival in Columbus, Ohio, on Friday (May 17) to pay tribute to the late Soundgarden singer. As spotted by Loudwire, after Morello's instrumental medley of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave songs Tankian joined him on stage to sing Audioslave's "Like a Stone."
Cornell died in his Detroit hotel room on May 18, 2017, of what was later ruled a suicide. "Like a Stone" was the second single from Audioslave's eponymous debut album, which was released in January 2003. About four minutes into Morello's medley, Tankian emerged to croon "Stone" to the crowd's raucous cheers, with the audience joining in on the song's soaring chorus. It's not the first time Tankian or Morello have performed the track in Cornell's honor.
