TJ Porter Debuts Bristling New Single ‘Harlem’: Premiere

Jim Jones, Cam'ron, A$AP Rocky — the list goes on when it comes to rap stars that once called Harlem home. TJ Porter looks to be next in line of carrying the burden of his hometown on his shoulders, all of while separating himself from those he entered the game with. As Porter gets ready to unload his major label debut, the 19-year-old delivers a potential banger with an ode to his city in "Harlem" on Friday (June 7).

The Def Jam signee boasts a versatile repertoire that not many teenagers possess in hip-hop. Here, Porter opts to show that he can still go bar for bar like those that initially put Harlem on the map. "TJ Porter, Harlem's finest I'm bringing the old back/ Any drug up in Harlem my n—-s just sold that/ And I make the town lit, my n—a that's cold facts," he tactfully rhymes.

“I recorded 'Harlem' in Los Angeles," Porter relays to Billboard. "I told [Levon] that I wanted to make a record for people from Harlem that connected the old with the new, as I take the listeners on a spin through Harlem hood to hood, giving them some history on [the neighborhood] while I talk my shit."

Keep an eye out for his Voice of the Trenches album coming soon. Porter previously released the No Disturbance EP and contributed to Def Jam's introductory Undisputed compilation album earlier in 2019.
