Tina Turner Makes Surprise Appearance at Broadway’s ‘Tina: The Tina Turner Musical’ Opening Night

Tina: The Tina Turner Musical was so well-loved on its opening night Thursday (Nov. 7), that nothing would have made it better except for having the musical icon herself there. And that's exactly what happened.

Tina Turner surprised the crowd at Broadway's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, joining the cast onstage with other members of the musical's team. She gave an emotional speech, noting that “This musical is my life but it’s like poison that turned to medicine. I can never be as happy as I am now.”

The show follows Turner, played by Adrienne Warren, as she moved from Tennessee to St. Louis, detailing her abusive relationship with ex-husband Ike, but ultimately launching her 50-year global career as the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Turner wasn't the only star in attendance. Oprah Winfrey, Gayle King, Tiffany Haddish, Spike Lee, Whoopi Goldberg, Tituss Burgess, Martha Stewart, Anna Wintour and more were all there to support the musical's opening night.
