Tiffany Young sat down with Billboard to reveal how she created her song “Lips on Lips,” explaining that what started as a simple hum evolved into a “flowy, dreamy fairytale” of a “happy love song.”
“I think I was just humming,” Young tells Billboard. “Once you start humming words out…I start playing with phonetics and what words could possibly fit in.” Upon writing the first line of the song, she realized that she wanted to turn it into a fantasy and for it to feel like walking on clouds.
“I think you get lost in it because it opens you up into daydreaming about the person you love or imagining this fairytale fantasy that I hope to bring you in,” she adds.
Young explains that this song, along with the EP of the same name it appears on, was inspired by her lifelong inspiration of fairytales and fantasy.
“There's always an obstacle and a struggle and a fight before you get to that happily ever after,” she says. “Or in this instance, the fairytale kiss. Also I just really wanted to write a happy love song.”
As for how she celebrated upon completing the track, Young confesses that she ordered “a lot of dessert,” but notes that the real celebration was the feeling she had.
Revealing that she refers to the final chorus as the “confetti chorus,” due to the fact that there are ad-libs sprinkled onto it, Young says that when she listens to it, it feels like “fireworks bursting,” and that is her celebration.
