Chance The Rapper and The Weeknd didn’t know what they were in for once Dionne Warwick kicked off a Twitter rampage on Saturday night (December 5). The iconic singer evidently had some spare time to ask some hard-hitting question about current artists, beginning with Lil Chano.
“Hi, @chancetherapper,” she started. “If you are very obviously a rapper why did you put it in your stage name? I cannon stop thinking about this.”
Chance replied in less than 30 minutes, “Sorry, I”m freaking out that u know who I am. This is amazing! I will be whatever you wanna call me Ms Warwick. God bless you.”
Warwick wasn’t done playing with Chance though and quipped, “I am now Dionne the Singer. Of course I know you. You’re THE rapper. Let’s rap together. I’ll message you.” From there, she shared Chance’s duet with Justin Bieber “Holy,” saying it was one of her “favorite songs right now.”
Warwick then set her sights on The Weeknd and tweeted, “The Weeknd is next. Why? It’s not even spelled correctly? @theweeknd.” Unsurprisingly, the Canadian crooner was thrilled and quickly replied, “I just got roasted by Dionne Warwick and I feel honored! You just made my day.” He added a laughing emoji and three hearts at the end of his tweet.
Warwick wrapped up her Twitter spree with, “If you have ‘The’ in your name I’m coming for you. I need answers today.” Then she went back to watching Lucifer on Nextfix.
Notably, neither Chance or The Weeknd answered Warwick’s questions, but perhaps that went down behind the scenes. Warwick is one of the most-charted female vocalists in Billboard history with 56 of her songs making the Hot 100 between 1962 and 1998 and 80 singles in total – either solo or collaboratively – making the Hot 100, R&B and/or adult contemporary charts.
The 79-year-old, who turns 80 on Saturday (December 12), has remained active throughout her career. More recently, Warwick was revealed as the Mouse on the FOX television show The Masked Singer and made an appearance during Gladys Knight and Patti Labelle’s Verzuz battle
