They started out as the background vocalists for Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Anthony Hamilton. Now, The Hamiltones will be releasing their debut EP, Watch the Ton3s, on June 7. As the release countdown begins, the trio is premiering a new single from the EP, “Money Can’t Buy You Love (Remix)," on Billboard today (May 30).
Featuring guest turns by rapper Phonte (Little Brother) and singer Ricco Barrino, the melodic “Money” is the follow-up to lead single “Pieces.” Set off by the silky harmonies of The Hamiltones -- J. Vito, Tony Lelo and 2E -- the song tells the story of a man who learns that real love is more than just having deep pockets to support the woman of his dreams.
Streetz Mentor and Gotti Rock Solid produced “Money,” whose live instrumentation includes the guitar work of The Hamiltones’ Lelo. The trio’s manager Brandon Davis wrote the song.
Besides the “Money” remix, being released May 31, the forthcoming EP (Common Cents Media Group/Empire/Dame LLC) features five original recordings. As for what fans will be hearing, they can expect more of what brought the Hamiltones to the forefront their collaborations with Anthony Hamilton, PJ Morton and Tori Kelly and their recent viral spoof of Birdman’s “Respeck.”
“We can switch up every now and then,” says group member 2E. “But this is a soul/R&B EP -- feel-good music.”
While there are no talks of a full album yet, The Hamiltones are planning to release a series of EPs moving forward that will span various genres. In the meantime, the group’s slate of upcoming performances includes the Essence Festival in New Orleans with PJ Morton (July 5), Vancouver Island MusicFest in Canada (July 12-14), Salmon Arm Roots & Blues Festival in Canada (Aug. 15-18) and the African American Cultural Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina (Aug. 31).
