The duo previously reached a No. 5 high with "Lonely Boy" and notched one other top 10, "Gold on the Ceiling" (No. 9), both in 2012.
The Black Keys are the third act to score a first Mainstream Rock Songs leader in 2019, following Rival Sons with "Do Your Worst" (March 9) and The Glorious Sons with "S.O.S. (Sawed Off Shotgun)" (Jan. 19). Just one act, Bad Wolves ("Zombie"), reached No. 1 for the first time in 2018.
"Lo/Hi" concurrently rules the Adult Alternative Songs and all-rock-format Rock Airplay charts for a third week each. As it crowns Mainstream Rock Songs, it becomes just the second song to have topped all three tallies, following Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Dark Necessities" in 2016, and the first to do so simultaneously. (Mainstream Rock Songs began in 1981, while Adult Alternative Songs followed in 1996 and Rock Airplay in 2009.)
Next up for "Lo/Hi": an attempt at No. 1 on Alternative Songs, where the song ranks at No. 2 for a second week. Should it reach No. 1, it would become the second song to rule all four rock radio airplay lists, after RHCP's "Necessities."
"Lo/Hi" is the lead single from Let's Rock, the duo's ninth studio album, due June 28. Produced by the pair after multiple LPs helmed by Danger Mouse, it's the first Black Keys full-length since Turn Blue, which debuted atop the Billboard 200 dated May 31, 2014, with 164,000 equivalent album units earned in its first week, according to Nielsen Music.
