It didn’t work.
Perhaps Texas Senator Ted Cruz is starting to feel the heat. Or maybe Lone Star Republicans just don't get that in the Trump era, being in a rock band isn't the thing most likely to scare voters away. As the Senate race between incumbent Senator Cruz and Democratic congressman Beto O'Rourke gets close in the run-up to the Nov. 6 midterm election, the Texas GOP tried to shame O'Rourke this week by tweeting out photos the buzzed-about El Paso native from his days criss-crossing the country as the bassist for punk band Foss.
While the party seemed to think it had ripped a sick burn on O'Rourke after he turned down Cruz's request for a debate on Friday (Aug. 31) by pointing out Beto's misspent youth rocking out and, recently, skating in burger joint parking lots, the viral campaign backfired.
Check out some the responses.
Given Cruz's reputation as one the reviled members Congress, after the GOP's third effort to target O'Rourke by posting his mugshot from a late 1990s DWI arrest — which he has talked about several times since the beginning his political career — their final shot came up blankest.
