The D are about to drop some big news about their new album.
For those about to rock, Tenacious D salute you two times. The long-running comedy rock duo comprised Jack Black and Kyle Gass announced on Tuesday (Sept. 4) that they are breaking a long dry spell this month with a double banger project called Post-Apocalypto. First up is the Sept. 28 debut the first episode a six-part YouTube animated series, for which they recorded all the voices; every frame the show was also hand-drawn by Black.
The series will roll out on Tenacious D's YouTube page, with new episodes dropped every Friday. Each chapter will feature new music from the duo, leading up to the Nov. 2 release an album the same name, the pair's first full-length since 2012's Rize the Fenix; songs from each episode available on all download services after that week's show airs. The album was produced by the band's longtime bassist John Spiker and it will feature contributions from longtime pal and Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl on drums.
"True to the title, Post-Apocalypto finds Tenacious D thrust into a world complete and utter destruction following the drop an atomic bomb," reads a description the series. "Surviving the attack in classic cinematic fashion (a good old imperishable 1950's refrigerator), the duo quickly learns that new forms evil have spawned from the blast. One thing becomes apparent -- for humanity to prevail, Tenacious D must save the world. With unimaginable twists and turns, an insane visit to the White House, a time machine, a space adventure, and the help some tried and true daddy issues, Post-Apocalypto is as hilarious as it is political, and as brilliant and multi-faceted as its incredible creators. The songs are damn good, too."
The album will be available digitally and on CD, as well as on transluscent green vinyl and in a limited-edition vinyl picture disc; click here for purchase information.
