Florida authorities say they’ve arrested a man in the shooting death rapper XXXTentacion.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office said in a news release sent Thursday morning (June 21) that 22-year-old Dedrick Devonshay Williams Pompano Beach was arrested shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The 20-year-old rapper was ambushed by two suspects as he left an upscale motor sports dealership Monday afternoon. The MC who rose to fame on SoundCloud and whose stage name is pronounced “Ex Ex Ex ten-ta-see-YAWN,” was shot while in his sports car.
Williams is charged with first-degree murder dangerous depraved (without) premeditation. He’s being held without bond in the Broward County Jail. An attorney isn’t listed on jail records.
TMZ previously reported that during a vigil for the rapper on Wednesday night in South Florida, X's mother told friends and family that she'd gotten notice that police had made the arrest. According to CNN, Williams appeared in court on Thursday afternoon and a judge ordered him held without bond; he is due back in court on Monday (June 25) for the probation violation. In a statement about the arrest ficials said they are still seeking "additional suspects."
A spokesperson for the Broward County Sheriff's department could not be reached for additional comment at press time.
