Earlier this month, fans all across the world gathered for the hugely anticipated official return of Winter, as Game of Thrones came back for Season 8.
Today (April 26), to heighten the show’s final season, Columbia Records and HBO have released For the Throne, a compilation album filled with music inspired by the cultural phenomenon of a show. Before the album even arrived, over 250,000 users created their own GoT-inspired playlists according to Spotify.
The 14-track album spans across a wide range of genres, including rap, rock, R&B, pop, and even a track sung entirely in Spanish (“Me Traicionaste” by Rosalía and A CHAL). Hip-hop and R&B are well-represented on the project, with features from Travis Scott, A$AP Rocky, Ty Dolla $ign, SZA, The Weeknd, Joey Bada$$, and the late Lil Peep.
The first taste of the project came with “Power Is Power” by SZA, The Weeknd and Travis Scott, which has already amassed over 12 million Spotify plays since its release earlier this month (April 18). More recently, Florence and The Machine debuted a new song during the closing credits of last week’s episode.
GoT lovers can order For the Throne vinyl records, featuring variant cover art options with every house's crest from Lannister to Stark, and Targaryen. There is also a limited-edition split-colored fire and ice vinyl available. Vinyl records are expected to ship in late July.
