Straight No Chaser is taking it again to the nice ol' days with the discharge of their new single and accompanying lyric video for “Motownphilly/This Is How We Do It,” premiering solely on Billboard at the moment (Oct. 16).
The a cappella group mashes collectively the hit '90s songs from Boyz II Men and Montell Jordan, respectively, with their very own distinctive vocal flare. Meanwhile, the medley’s lyric video pays tribute to the group’s roots after they first shaped Straight No Chaser in 1996 whereas attending Indiana University, and contains a scrapbook of newspaper clippings, sheet music and previous photographs from the group’s adolescence in school.
Straight No Chaser additionally provides a private contact to the brand new tune, referencing the group’s origins with a rap from member Jerome Collins: “Started again in Indiana, Hoosierland/Called it Straight No Chaser, a cappella, no band.”
“We needed to start out our album with a monitor that introduced us again to the beginning of our group -- the mid 90s and R&B,” member Walter Chase tells Billboard. "Back then, you'd discover us singing on the campus of Indiana University wherever we might discover a crowd.
