Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants has became an animated staple for many, colouring an abundance viewers’ lives with the zany antics its very memorable roster characters. However, fans the television program were sent into a frenzy over the weekend when a twitter account, that appeared to be an authorized SpongeBob account, randomly admitted that the show would air its final episode on March 1.

No forewarning was given about a potential last season for the series, which inevitably left many in shock at the unforeseen revelation. The tweet, which has since been deleted, reveals that “Unfortunately, our show will be coming to a final end as March 1st, 2018. It’s been a long ride, and we are very grateful for all the fans worldwide that have shown support throughout the years, none this would have been possible without you.”
However, fans the show rejoice, as the ficial SpongeBob Twitter account has not posted this tweet themselves. Similarly, Entertainment Weekly recently revealed that Nickelodeon had ordered another 26 episodes, effectively renewing the series into 2019.

While rumours the show’s demise circulate almost every year, this time around, the tweet that sent many into panic mode had an aura authenticity that effectively legitimized its claims.
