Smokepurpp and Lil Pump both stopped to speak with Billboard’s Chelsea Briggs on Monday at the 2018 MTV VMAs, chatting about their new collaborative track “Nephew.”
Speaking his friendship with Lil Pump, Smokepurpp tells Billboard, “We grew up together, and I actually made him start rapping. We basically lived on the same block, and we just made music together. We blew up together. We're like brothers.”
Lil Pump notes that the video for his song with Smokepurpp, which was shot in London, was “lit,” adding, “I was excited…That shit’s fire.”
On the subject beefs in the rap world, Smokepurpp says that he is all about positivity, adding, “I love everybody. I don't have beef with nobody, so I'm good. I'm one those people, you know what I'm saying, and RIP XXXTentacion] too.”
“He was from Florida too,” he continues, speaking the late rapper. “We all started rapping at the same time, me, him, Pump, Skee. So it's sad.”
As for Lil Pump, he teases that he is currently working with some “big artists” right now, confirming that they are other rappers, but he “can’t sat shit” about it.
