Skooly hasn't released a ton of music in 2019, but he came through with the vibrant "Pop Off" last week (Nov. 8). Days later (Nov. 12), the Atlanta native followed-up the catchy tune by dropping off a cinematic music video. The PG-directed clip arrives as part of the partnership between 2 Chainz's T.R.U. (The Real University) and Atlantic Records, which Billboard announced in October.
The 25-year-old recruits a team of hardnosed women to help execute his gameplan of hitting a lick and robbing a poker game he knows about for thousands of dollars. Before getting to business, Skooly has some fun turning up with the girls he refers to as "savages" on the track. After learning the gameplan, they eventually complete the robbery of the game participants at gunpoint and return to meet up with Skooly in a random garage to celebrate their job well done.
“I treat the record label as school with various levels,” 2 Chainz told Billboard of his strategy to one day build a T.R.U. empire. “That’s why we refer to it as ‘The Real University.’ It’s a course you go through. Ever since my mixtape days, I’ve used the acronym T.R.U. It was a school of thought I put in place. It was all about me practicing what I preach, getting comfortable in my own skin, going through ups and downs, and moving forward. Atlantic gave me the opportunity to share my vision."
Look for a T.R.U. compilation album to drop in the future. For now, watch the "Pop Off" video below.
