Breaking up is never easy, but what if you give someone the bad news over a funky island beat? Showtek and MOTi enlisted Australia's Starley and Haitian rap icon Wyclef Jean for a well-intentioned heartbreaker, and hopefully it helps the news go "Down Easy."
It's a fun new vibe for the producers, and an opportunity to work with a living legend that no one took for granted.
“This track is one our favorite projects in our careers so far," Showtek tells Billboard in an emailed statement. "Dance music is one the most popular and successful exports Holland has to fer, so as Dutchmen, it was truly a special honor for us to be able to take this to the next level, without any genre boundaries holding us back – and also to work with one our idols, Wyclef Jean, as well as with the very talented Starley."
The tropical beat sure does help the medicine go down. Jean gets a bit introspective for his verse, bringing his signature poeticism to the poppy tune. For MOTi, the message the song digs deeper than just a romantic end.
“One lesson I’ve learned in life is that sometimes you have to let go in order to be able to move on," he says in an emailed statement. "‘Down Easy’ reminds me just that. You always have to give it your best. Staying positive is key – ensuring your own happiness is an absolute must! Stay MOTiVATED."
"Down Easy" is a fun and flirty rhythm no matter how you take the hit. It's out everywhere Friday, July 27, but you can get to know it intimately with the lyric video below, exclusively on Billboard Dance.
