Shawn Mendes sat down with Spotify on Thursday (Nov. 15) for the third episode of the streaming app's new podcast The Rewind With Guy Raz. In the 33-minute episode, Mendes talks to Raz about his humble beginnings and his fast rise to worldwide stardom after one fateful Vine add in 2013.
At the start of the podcast, Mendes talked about selecting up the guitar at age 13 and studying easy methods to play the instrument by YouTube tutorials. "My dad had this outdated classical guitar that was given as a present in my home with damaged strings and out of tune and I didn't know easy methods to tune it, and I form of messed round with that for a few weeks," Mendes defined. "I requested him if we might get a guitar and we rented one and he was like, 'If we hire a guitar and you may learn to play it in a few weeks, we'll get you guitar.'"
Mendes additionally recalled his first encounter with followers after hitting 300,000 Vine followers. "American Viners had been coming to Toronto for the primary time and so they messaged me saying, 'Hey, we'd love so that you can come,' and I'm like, 'Of course,'" he recalled. "There's a large group of  individuals and so they all rotated and checked out me and instantly acknowledged me and begin operating towards me."
Just two years later after his first album Handwritten went to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and his hit "Stitches" went viral, Mendes mentioned being reached out to by Taylor Swift's individuals to open up for her on her North American tour. "I bear in mind we had been in Chicago.
