Selena Gomez stopped by Sirius XM's Hits 1 on Thursday (Oct. 24) to chat about her long-awaited return to music and the inspiration behind her new single "Look At Her Now."
During the interview, the pop star revealed to hosts Tony Fly and Symon that the funky follow-up to lead single "Lose You To Love Me" was meant as a thank you to her army of loyal Selenators.
"So this one I did for my fans," she said. "Because my ride-or-dies that have been with me for years, they've seen everything and they've been a part of my life. And social media amplifies your connection with people, so I actually feel way closer to them than I've ever been before. So I wanted them to know that I was OK. You know, I wanted to release that moment with 'Lose You To Love Me' but this was more like, 'I'm actually proud of myself and I'm so grateful for you guys.'"
Gomez also explained that, while it may be more uptempo and dance-oriented than its emotive predecessor, "Look At Her Now" is just as much of a catharsis in its own way.
"Basically the whole song is…telling a story," she said of the new single. "And it's just always about kind of redeeming yourself and making sure that you acknowledge that you kind of mess up and you go through your stuff but you can always come out of it just feeling like a boss."
