ScHoolboy Q’s New Album ‘CrasH Talk’ Is Finally Here: Listen

After three long years, Top Dawg’s very own ScHoolboy Q is officially back with his fifth studio album, CrasH Talk. The South Central native is known for his consistency with his quality-over-quantity approach to all his releases, making the new project well worth the wait.

A selection of the hottest names in hip-hop assembled to contribute to the follow-up to 2016’s Blank Face LP — which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 — including: Travis Scott, 6lack, Ty Dolla $ign, YG, 21 Savage, Kid Cudi and Lil Baby. The album is led by his hard-hitting, raw single, “Numb Numb Juice," which Q released to kick off CrasH Talk’s roll out and which peaked at No. 25 on the Hot R&B Hip-Hop Songs chart (dated March 30).

CrasH Talk’s initial release date was pushed back twice, first for the unfortunate passing of close friend Mac Miller, and once again recently after the death of revered rapper Nipsey Hussle. “You know I drop albums every two years, right? But listen, with my n—a gone right now, I just don't feel right putting out an album,” Q told the audience at his concert shortly after Mac’s death.

Thankfully, the project arrives as ScHoolboy Q is in good spirits again, confirmed by the celeboratory Instagram caption he posted the moment of the album’s long-awaited release: “THis tHe Happiest I eva been wit a album dropping… tHank y’all soo mucH #CRASHTALK OUT NOW… positive vibes today… literally smiling ear 2 ear… until tHe next cHapter.”

Although Kendrick Lamar doesn’t have a feature on the new album, his name still appears throughout the project in the form of writing credits. In a recent interview with The Breakfast Club, Q explained his TDE labelmate will always have a heavy hand in all his work.

“He have credits on all my shit because I’ll do the lyrics and I do everything, and he’ll hear something [like], "Drop the beat out hard. Cut this verse off. You did this verse too long,‘” Q said. “I used to be his hype man, so I think he just feel like he’s obligated to always help me or some shit. He pretty much do all my ad libs and song placements and stuff like that.”
