Robotaki Outdoes Himself With Stylish Sounds on 6-Song ‘Anachronism’ EP: Listen

Toronto-based producer Robotaki blew us away with his 2018 EP Science, but the former biology major just entered EP grad school. His six-track follow-up Anachronism has been highly anticipated since lead singles "Meant to Be" and "All I Can Do" alluded to tightly woven elements of future funk synths, indie rock melodies, moody blues dreamscapes and hazy layers of Robotaki's own voice singing deep-dug personal lyrics.

Now, we explore Anachronism in full. Heartfelt melodies meet jarring textures on EP opener "Severance." The Daft Punk-ian sing-along "Meant To Be" follows, pushing the dance energy to sunny-day heights. We drift onward with the lo-fi feels of "Beaches," a psychedelic experiment that's as much about the breaks between notes as it is the layers of listless and punchy sound.

"All I Can Do" is a dreamy chill wave reprieve before "Moonside" hits like a wonky walk across a bounce house floor. It's fun to explore that song's crunchy textures. EP closer "Snow Angels" brings us back to the intimacy of the producer's bedroom for an emotional tour of pure soul -- but he's sure to give us one more twist of sonic surprise before it's all over.

If Science was Robotaki finding his voice, Anachronism is the producer riding a wave of pure confidence into electronic frontiers. It's packs a lot of punch in a small package, and it should get fans more than pumped for a string of live performances with San Holo and Odesza now through early August. Listen to Anachronism, out now on Foreign Family Collective, and check out Robotaki's upcoming tour dates below.
