The first trailer for an HBO documentary based on the life late comedian Robin Williams has arrived. Directed by Marina Zenovich, Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind memorializes the actor who shared his light with the world and made people laugh through his iconic movie roles and stand-up comedy.

The initial voiceover features Williams speaking on stand-up as a form survival. "For me, that’s jazz, that’s what I have to do," he says. "I don’t tell jokes, I just use characters as a vehicle for me." Williams' reflections on his art and life are interspersed with archival footage and interviews with his colleagues and loved ones, including his son Zak and fellow comedian Billy Crystal.

Williams died from suicide in 2014 at the age 63. The trailer delves into the actor’s personal fears and struggles with addiction, which he ten did through his comedy. Waiting for Godot co-star Steve Martin shared his thoughts on what he witnessed the actor deal with. "He was really comfortable on stage," Martin said. "Offstage, I just felt that he was holding himself together."

Zak Williams also opened up about his father’s self-doubt, but called the funnyman "the most successful person I know."

Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind airs July 16 on HBO. Watch the trailer below.
