Post Malone is gearing up to release a new single titled “Motley Crew,” which is named after Los Angeles heavy metal band, Mötley Crüe.

With the superstar rapper celebrating his 26th birthday on Independence Day (July 4), his manager Dre London took to Instagram to share a video of him celebrating while the unreleased song played in the background. He also confirmed “Motley Crew” is set for release on Friday (July 9).

“Happy Birthday my brother @postmalone,” he wrote. “I tell u all the time you are 1 of the realest Americans I ever met!! So of course your day is today! This week we celebrated by shooting a MOVIE!! I’m excited to finally announce new single ‘Motley Crew’ dropping Friday! Full project with Concert Doc coming real soon! #DreVision #2021.”

Mötley Crüe member Tommy Lee posted to his Instagram Stories expressing his excitement about Post Malone naming the song after his group, while revealing he’s starring in the music video.

“A few months ago @tylayaweh and @postmalone dropped a tune called ‘Tommy Lee.’ Now this? Wtf happening?” he wrote. “I’m today @ new @postmalone video shoot dude! I’m in it!! His next single is called ‘Mötley Crüe’ I shit you not!!!! I can’t show y’all anything til it’s done and ready to drop! Unfknreal!!!!!!!”

Post Malone and Tyla Yaweh released “Tommy Lee” in June 2020 that peaked at No. 65 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified gold by the RIAA by October 2020. Tommy Lee played drums on an alternate version of the song, with SAINt JHN also featuring on another remix.

During a November 2020 interview with Kyle Meredith, Tommy Lee admitted he was flattered by Post Malone and other rappers paying homage to him.

“I’m honored to death that someone would even call a song ‘Tommy Lee,’ and then to have a song be about you,” he said. “And coming from guys that, like — fucking Post Malone is probably one of the biggest artists, other than Billie Eilish. These are extremely talented and successful artists, and to get that back, it’s hard to even explain. It feels so cool. It’s like you’re in the club. They’ve not only accepted you, they’re fucking honoring you.”

He added, “Getting shoutouts from a bunch of other Hip Hop artists, and then my name pops up in a bunch of songs, I get a kick out of that. I’m like, ‘That’s fucking rad, man.’ It’s weird even talking about it.”

So far in 2021, Post Malone has contributed “Only Wanna Be with You” to Pokémon 25: The Album, featured on DJ Khaled’s “I Did It” with Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Baby and DaBaby, and posthomously collaborated with Juice WRLD on Clever’s “Life’s a Mess II.”
