Polo G Lives Up To ‘RapStar’ Name With Billboard Hot 100 Crown

Polo G is celebrating a huge win with his new song “RAPSTAR.” On Monday (April 19), Billboard announced Polo G is entering the Hot 100 at the No. 1 spot, thanks to his new single.

On April 9, the Chicago lyricist dropped off the official video for “RAPSTAR,”On April 9, the Chicago lyricist dropped off the official “RAPSTAR” video, which is directed by Arrad, and finds Polo G reflecting on the ups and downs of being a Hip Hop main attraction. Polo G uses various scenes to depict his everyday life as one of Hip Hop’s biggest stars in the video. He buys high-priced luxury cars, shuts down a clothing store, flies on a private G4 jet and even gets inducted into a fictitious Hip Hop Hall of Fame for his contributions to the culture.

Polo G topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart doesn’t come as a surprise. “RAPSTAR,” brought in over 53.6 million U.S. streams and sold 5,300 downloads in its first week, according to MRC Data. It also drew 844,000 radio airplay audience impressions in its opening week. Within its first 24 hours, the music video for “RAPSTAR” was the No. 1 trending topic on YouTube.

The song isn’t just Polo G’s first No. 1 single. “RAPSTAR” is the first No. 1 song from a Chicago rapper since Chance The Rapper appeared on DJ Khaled’s 2017 “I’m The One.” Polo G is also the first rapper from Chicago to be the lead artist on a No. 1 song since Kanye West did it in 2007 with “Stronger.”

“RAPSTAR” is Polo G’s latest release since his guest verses on his collaborative single “Fashion” with the late Pop Smoke featured on the Boogie: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and “Richer” with Rod Wave in March. Polo G’s last solo single, “GNF (OKOKOK),” arrived in February, and fans are waiting for his upcoming album Hall of Fame to drop later this year.
