P!nk has never been good at faking it, but on "Can We Pretend," the bouncy dance pop single she released on Thursday morning (April 11), the singer tries to just act like things are fine, even if they are totally not. "So can we pretend that I'm 22 today/ Dancin' on the tables with you, oh yeah/ Can we pretend that we all end up okay/ I just want to forget with you," she sings over a propulsive beat and a bright tambourine shake.
Oh, and not for nothing, but the outspoken artist/activist also wants to pretend "that we both like the president."
The song reminisces about a time before social media and 24-hour news feeds, when we didn't have anywhere to post pics of said table dancing and you could look forward to running over to someone's house to tell them what you're thinking before they could read it on Twitter. "Screw this, I don't want to let it go," she sings wistfully on the track written with OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder and Cash Cash; Tedder and Cash Cash also produced the song.
"Can We Pretend" is the thrid song from Pink's upcoming eighth album, Hurts 2B Human (April 26), following on the heels of "Walk Me Home" and Hustle." The 13-song collection features collaborations with Wrabel ("90 Days"), Khalid ("Hurts 2B Human") and Chris Stapleton ("Love Me Anyway").
