NYPD Launches “Rap Unit” to Monitor Crime at Hip Hop Shows!

Hip Hop Police?

The New York Police Department was revealed to have created a “Rap Unit” that specializes in on-the-ground operations at Hip Hop concerts. According to sources, this Unit will compile a weekly list of Hip Hop shows and classify them as either low, medium or high risk for violence or drug-related incidents.

The unit’s presence was first felt during Remy Ma’s March 2018 show at Irving Plaza – as the NYPD eyed Remy and entourage member, Jahmeek “ah” Elliot – who is suspected of gang ties.

To say that this move by the NYPD is biased, is an understatement. Authority continues to target Hip Hop and people of color in urban cities while others go unchecked. NYPD spokesman, Sgt. Jessica McRorie defended the unit by claiming the Unit has been “connected with past acts of violence” regardless of musical genre.
