NYFW 2019’s Most Wearable Trends — and the Stars Who Rocked Them With Ease

New York Fashion Week is a time of year when all of the biggest names in fashion, beauty, entertainment, social media, and beyond gather together to flaunt the season’s hottest styles, and to set the trends for months to come.
The spring/summer 2020 season saw the continuation of some of this year’s favorite trends — including neon colors and animal prints — as well as new ones that are sure to last well into next year.
Take a look at some of this season’s NYFW wearable trends, and some of the superstars who will serve as your style inspiration.
Graphic Eyeshadow
Celebrity makeup artist Sir John, whose most notable client is Beyoncé, created a beautifully structured graphic eyeshadow look with Uoma Beauty’s Black Magic Color Palette in Poise for Laquan Smith’s runway show. He said that his mission was to emphasize a cat-like eye shape on all of the models, and he achieved that by elongating the shadow past the outer corner of the eye in both the crease and bottom lash line.
Menswear On Women
Women wearing blazers is nothing new, but artists like Zendaya and Janelle Monaé have given structured menswear a bit of a face lift. Boxy silhouettes reminiscent of repurposed vintage thrifted suits and tuxedo tops with giant skirts are great ways to update the power suit look. Zendaya’s collab collection with Tommy Hilfiger this season was a perfect example of how menswear-inspired women’s wear can be upgraded.
White Eyeliner
Partly thanks to HBO’s Euphoria, fun, creative makeup looks totally took over the runways this season. One trend that kept popping up throughout the week was white eyeliner in a variety of different shapes. Legendary makeup artist “mother” Pat McGrath created what looked like little wings on the eye's outer corners for the Anna Sui runway, while the Bobbi Brown team gave their models mini clouds around their eyes at the Cynthia Rowley show.
Bedazzled Nails
Everyone from Cardi B to Bebe Rexha has professed their love for nail art — and more specifically, glittery nails. This trend has been on plenty of red carpets, and CND decided to take it to the next level for The Blonds’ Moulin Rouge-inspired show. Models like Gigi Gorgeous and Paris Hilton were outfitted with press-on nails adorned with Swarovski crystals that sparkled all the way to the back of the Al Hirschfeld theater.
Blinged-Out Hair
As much as the nails were twinkling, so was the hair. Celebrity hair stylist and Tresemme global ambassador Justine Marjan — whose clients include Kim Kardashian, Nicole Scherzinger and Dinah Jane — decided to give some of the girls modeling in the Alice + Oli by Stacey Bendet presentation bedazzled French braids ornamented with pearls, crystals, and other gems. They’re a subtle way to turn up the volume on an otherwise simple hairstyle that is relatively easy to recreate.
Black on Black…on Black
Black on black will never go out of style, no matter how it’s worn. Miley Cyrus’ take at the Tom Ford show included a blouse unbuttoned to mimic a deep v-neck, a long velvet trench, silk wide-leg trousers, and a giant furry hat; the mix of textures is what made her look so interesting. Vanessa Hudgens also played around with black on black textures by pairing a black lace bralette, pair of shorts, and bomber jacket to the Carolina Herrera runway.
Pastels
Euphoria has influenced makeup a lot in recent months, including the use of pastel colors. Pastel eyeshadow made its way into multiple presentations, especially ones keyed by Maybelline Global Makeup Artist, Erin Parsons. She created a blown-out watercolor eyeshadow look for the Christian Siriano show, and also went for light washes of color all over the eyelid for the Alice + Oli presentation.
