Normani took a second to meet up with Billboard at New York City's Z100 iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Friday (Dec. 7), chatting about recording her new single, working with Pharrell for her upcoming solo album and hitting the highway with Ariana Grande.
"It was really one of many first information I recorded," Normani says of latest music "Waves." "It simply resonated with me. I had this concept of placing 6LACK on it 'trigger he's such an unimaginable artist. He actually did carry the report to life."
"I feel that 2019 is gonna be a very large 12 months when it comes to R&B and the place music goes," she continues. "I hope that 'Waves' is a illustration of what's to come back and hopefully I will be a part of it."
Following her time with Fifth Harmony, the singer is wanting ahead to what's to come back: a solo album and opening Ariana Grande's Sweetener Tour.
Speaking about her time within the studio, she reveals: "I had a session with Pharrell. It was actually dope ... He's hype, particularly when he's feeling a report. He's only a mastermind. I like seeing the greats at work. Even although it was my session, I used to be like, 'I simply wish to sit again and simply watch you do what you do.'"
And on the subject of Grande, she's received all good issues to say. "She's such an unimaginable lady ... I'm actually grateful to spend the subsequent three months along with her. She's such a cool individual," Normani tells Billboard, including that the pop star's "Thank U, Next" video is "in all probability like the perfect video I've seen in all of 2018."
