Nike Files Lawsuit Against Puma

Nike has reportedly filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Puma, alleging that Puma has “forgone independent innovation” and is using Nike’s technologies without permission, according to Forbes. Specifically, Nike accuses Puma using its Flyknit, Air and cleat assembly technologies.

Nike first introduced the beloved Flyknit material in 2012 and they now have over 300 issued utility patents related to the Flyknit technology, according to Forbes.

However, Puma does not believe it infringed upon any patents, and will continue production its products.

“Puma perceives that there are no patent infringements in this case. We will do everything to defend ourselves against these accusations,” corporate communications director Ulf Santjer wrote. “This is not a preliminary injunction, and the filed lawsuit will not have an impact on our current collections.”
