In the midst of Nicki Minaj’s welcomed return to music, she was reminded of what used to be a celebratory day in her life. Sunday (May 16) served as what would have been her father’s 65th birthday. Robert Maraj passed away in February after being killed in a tragic hit-and-run accident in Long Island, New York.
“Happy Birthday Daddy,” she wrote. “Miss u so much. So much. So so much. Rest In Peace. Oh my God.”

Nicki broke her silence on her father’s passing in a post to her website on Friday (May 14).
“Tho I can’t really bring myself to discuss the passing of my father as yet,” she continued. “I can say it has been the most devastating loss of my life.”
Robert Maraj was struck by a 70-year-old driver named Charles Polevich on February 12 who immediately fled the scene of the accident in Long Island, New York. Law enforcement found the car with an altered appearance in a garage and arrested Polevich on February 17. He was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident as well as evidence tampering.
Nicki, who became a mother in September, made her comeback on Friday (May 14) by surprising fans with the uploading of her 2009 seminal mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty to streaming services. The 2021 edition came with a few surprises including solo track “Fractions” and the reuniting of Young Money with Drake and Lil Wayne on “Seeing Green.”
“All I know is that they washed me on #SeeingGreen I’m a woman enough to admit when I’ve been washed on a track by the Greats,” the Queens native admitted. “And it’s ok #Barbz I’ve washed them b4. We’ll live through this one. I was still a lil rusty. I washed them in my head on #Fractions.”
