FX has a six-part documentary series on the way that will tell the stories of five Hip Hop heavyweights who helped propel the careers of the likes of Nicki Minaj, French Montana, Gucci Mane, Nipsey Hussle and more.

Directed by Rashidi Natara Harper, Hip Hop Uncovered will be based around the lives of Eugene “Big U” Henley, Christian “Trick Trick” Mathis, Waka Flocka’s mother Deb Antney, James “Bimmy” Antney and Jacques “Haitian Jack” Agnant – who all transitioned from the drug trade to financing some of the biggest names in music. In a press release, the docuseries is described as “an in-depth, thought-provoking docu-series that explores hip hop’s connection to the street hustle – the emergence of a heroin epidemic and eventually, crack flooding into cities like New York, Los Angeles and Detroit.”

Helping tell the stories will be cameos from the likes of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, T.I., Wiz Khalifa, The Game, Waka Flocka, Run-DMC, Nick Cannon, Ice T, Too $hort and more. The series premieres on February 12, and will air two episodes a week for three weeks.

“The best music is made when there is a struggle,” Snoop says in the series’ trailer, “when there is some sort of story that you can identify with that is a rags to riches story.”
