My Chemical Romance’s ‘Black Parade’ Marches Back to HipHopMagz 200 After Reunion Announcement

Streams and sales of My Chemical Romance's catalog soared in the first full tracking week since the band's Oct. 31 reunion announcement.

In the week ending Nov. 7, the band bounded by 98% to 22.6 million on-demand U.S. streams according to Nielsen Music. Additionally, its count of equivalent album units jumped by 127% to 16,000 (3,000 of which were album sales), while its song download total grew by 193% to 5,000.

Those metrics allow the band to dot multiple Billboard charts dated Nov. 16, led by its return to the Billboard 200. 2006's The Black Parade, a No. 2-peaking album for the band that November, re-enters at No. 92 with 8,000 units (up 100%). It's the set's first appearance on the tally since March 11, 2017, and its first time in the top 100 since Oct. 22, 2016.

The Black Parade also reaches Top Rock Albums (No. 15), where it's joined by 2004's Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge at No. 49 (5,000 units).

As part of the band's renewed relevance following the reunion announcement, multiple songs pull enough streams and sales to enter the streaming-, sales- and airplay-based Hot Rock Songs chart, where older titles are able to appear if in the top half of chart points and showing a meaningful reason for their return. "Welcome to the Black Parade," one of the band's signature tunes, paces the field, debuting at No. 6 with 3.2 million streams and 1,000 sold. The song currently marks MCR's only Hot 100 top 10, having peaked at No. 9 in January 2007, and it's also the band's only radio No. 1 to date, with seven weeks atop the Alternative Songs airplay chart in 2006-07.

The other MCR songs to reach the latest Hot Rock Songs tally: "Teenagers" (No. 16; 2.1 million U.S. streams), "Helena" (No. 19; 1.7 million) and "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" (No. 21; 1.6 million).

My Chemical Romance is set to reunite for a Dec. 20 show at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium. Multiple spring 2020 dates overseas have also been announced.
