In a post on Sunday (June 30), hip-hop superstar Lil Nas X officially came out to the world. The star posted a video on his Twitter account asking fans to listen closely to the lyrics of his song “C7osure,” along with posting a zoomed-in photo of his 7 EP’s art, showing a rainbow projected on the side of a building. “Deadass thought I made it obvious,” he wrote.
Fans around the world rejoiced at the news, praising Lil Nas X not only for coming out at the end of Pride month, but for coming out at the height of his popularity (the star’s song “Old Town Road” has spent 12 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart).
Some of those celebrating were celebrities, both queer and not. Many stars took to social media to congratulate the rapper on sharing his truth with the world.
