Metric Discusses Appreciation of Mexico City, Announces Benefit Song ‘Common Lives’ at ACL Fest

Metric’s Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw sat down with Billboard at this year's ACL Music Festival, where they discussed their appreciation of Mexico City and revealed that they are releasing a benefit song in collaboration with the band Zoe.

Metric, who are wrapping their current tour in Mexico City, were asked why the city means so much to them. “It's very close to our hearts,” Haines told Billboard. “From the beginning of our career, that's a place that we've gone and found this connection.”

Haines added that Metric had the “incredible experience” of touring with a band from Mexico City called Zoe on their U.S. trek, and that they have since collaborated together on a benefit song called “Common Lives,” which is due out Nov. 1.

“[It] just got played on the radio in Mexico City and we're donating the proceeds to this Monarch Ultra Marathon that follows the path of butterflies migrating from Canada through the U.S.,” she explained. “They're in Texas right now to the Sierra Madre Mountains in Mexico.”

“This is all bringing the Art of Doubt Tour to full circle,” she added. “Really driving home the point of people don't see these borders in the same way that politicians see these borders and without having to get into a political conversation, just taking a stand together, making a song together and supporting this charitable organization.”
