When Melissa McCarthy stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to talk about her new film The Kitchen, the show's host jumped right to the good stuff and addressed the rumors about McCarthy taking on the role of Ursula in the live-action remake of Disney's The Little Mermaid.
After Kimmel said that he read about the rumors, in a video uploaded on Tuesday (July 30), McCarthy responded sarcastically, "What's that?" Then, staring deep into the camera, she went on to say, "I hadn't heard about that. It seems like it will be an awfully fun thing to do. I'd love if Disney gave me a little ringy-ding-ding."
"We'll see…if it did happen, it would be very wonderful, Disney," she added, winking at the camera.
After that, the Bridesmaids star went on to explain that the original came out when she was a nanny. The kids that she was babysitting at the time were so obsessed with it, she spent every single night for about a year and a half watching the classic film. "I know it to my core, and I weirdly still love it," she said.
Earlier this month, fans also made a petition for Lizzo to star as Ursula after the "Juice" singer uploaded a video of herself singing "Poor Unfortunate Souls" on Twitter. Halle Bailey of Chloe x Halle was recently confirmed to play the part of Ariel.
The Little Mermaid follows The Lion King and Aladdin in Disney's series of live-action remakes.
Watch McCarthy address the rumors below around the 10:57 minute mark.
