Meghan Trainor Reveals Lizzo’s Surprising Connection to Her Song ‘Me Too’

Meghan Trainor stopped by A Little Late with Lilly Singh on Wednesday (Oct. 2) and talked about Lizzo’s connection to her 2016 hit “Me Too.”

“I met Lizzo back before she was blowin’ up,” the pop star told host Lilly Singh. “And it was awesome; the day I cut ‘Me Too’ vocals…she was in the kitchen at the studio. And I was like, ‘It’s Lizzo!' I freaked out and she was so sweet. And then I watched her explode, and I was so excited and loved that process of watching her go from [there] to where she is now.”

During the interview, Trainor also opened up about the amusing inspiration behind her latest single, “Wave.”

“There was this guy that was — this poor dude, I’m probably talkin’ ‘bout him everywhere,” she dished before imitating her former paramour. “But he was like, ‘We can’t ever be together ‘cause it won’t last!’ But he’d be like, ‘I love you’ and I was like ‘Ok, why are you calling then? Like why is this a thing?’ So I don’t know how to express myself with words, so I wrote this song and I sent it to him.”

However, Trainor’s bold move didn’t get quite the response she was hoping for.

“He was like, ‘Cool, should I produce this?” the pop star continued. “And I was like, ‘No! Listen to the lyrics! This is for you.’”
