And although her screen-time appearance is still under wraps (for now), Cardi B’s character “Leysa” may prove pivotal to the story. Franchise lead Vin Diesel’s character Dom Torreto reportedly has a connection to the elusive figure, while his kid has a connection to the “Up” rapper.
“My daughter wanted a piece of casting to happen, so Cardi B is in it,” Vin Diesel told Jimmy Kimmel in a March 2020 interview. “Well, you have to work through the writers and you have to create a role that will work through mythology. Strange enough, 20 years ago, you wouldn’t have thought this, but now we do have Oscar winners asking [for roles in the Fast franchise].”
Reggaeton boss Ozuna will also have a cameo and WWE legend John Cena stars as “Jakob,” the primary antagonist and Dom’s forsaken brother.
Rounding out the F9 cast are Michelle Rodriguez, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Kurt Russell and Academy Award-winning actresses Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron.
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic forced the film to shuffle release dates from May 22, 2020 to April 2, 2021, to its newly cemented unveiling of June 25, 2021.
