An unidentified 24-year-old man died after being transported in critical condition from the Perry's Stage at this weekend's Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago on Saturday night (Aug. 3).
According to a statement from the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications shared with Billboard, the individual passed away at a local hospital.
At press time, OEMC had not responded to requests for the name of the individual or the cause of death. "The circumstances are under investigation and we have no further details at this time," read the OEMC statement.
A statement from the festival's organizers expressed condolences to the deceased's family. "We are saddened to learn of the death of an individual who attended Lollapalooza on Saturday," it read. "Our thoughts are with the individual’s family and loved ones at this time." According to the Chicago Tribune, Saturday's death marked the second year in a row that a festivalgoer has died after attending the massive four-day fest on the city's lakefront.
Additionally, Saturday's show was marred by a mass attempted fence jump during which a group of people attempted to tear down a part of the fencing on the Lake Shore Drive side of the fest; Saturday also reportedly saw four arrests, five citations for ciminal trespass and 30 hospital transfers.
